A 3 hour workshop (Sat 10th Jan 1pm – 4pm) introducing students to charts and chartwork and basic tidal theory for Portishead Quays Marina Berth Holders. This session can either be an introduction to new topics or a useful refresher for those with some existing knowledge. Minimum age 12 – No maximum age! This session is an interactive hands-on session using our extensive range of Imray and Admiralty charts – you’ll be plotting positions using portland plotters and dividers in no time at all. Do you want to de-mystify chart symbols, understand what the different colours represent and be able to accurately plot your position and a waypoint? Coupled with an introduction to how tides are formed using some great animation, how to read tide tables and even trying your hand at a tidal curve – this session is an essential fun and interactive introduction. We supply all of the equipment you just need including tea and coffee to bring yourselves! Our expert instructors will be on hand to answer any of your chart and tidal questions.
Course Content is:
Chartwork covers: different types of charts, basic chart work, chart symbols, position fixing and bearings and distance.
Tidal thoery covers: how tides work, spring and neap tides, where and how to find tidal information, chartered depths, drying heights and vertical clearances.
