If you already hold your Powerboat Level 2 certificate or higher you can attend one of our Powerboat Development Days. These one day development sessions cover a range of skills including:
- Shorebased knowledge such as navigation, buoyage, IRPCS, weather, passage planning, tides;
- Close Quarter Handling – alongside upwind and downwind, turning in a confined space, finger berths, ferry gliding;
- Planing Speed – Man Over Board recovery, picking up a mooring buoy, planing speed manoeuvres, handling in more challenging conditions;
- Practical Navigation Techniques – helming whilst conducting transitional navigation techniques and using on board electronic navigation aids.
Courses run all year round and take in navigation to a wide range of ports/harbours around the Bristol Channel including Chepstow, Weston-Super-Mare, Cardiff, Newport.
Take a look at our recent development day with Phil, one of our returning customers, as he dodges the showers in the Bristol Channel to spend the day afloat honing his helming skills in a slight/moderate sea heading down channel, using a range of navigation techniques to find a particular spot in the Langford grounds returning up the channel using the on-board chart plotter to create and follow a navigational route. It was a busy day in the channel for shipping with several large vessels requiring a good understanding of the IRPCS to ensure safe navigation.
