At the core off all we do as sailors is one thing – weather. It’s is our engine, our bliss or our most frightening adversary.
A half day workshop introducing skippers and crew to the huge range of weather information available to us, where to get good information and how to understand our weather patterns and systems.
The aim of the workshop is to provide students with a basic introduction the vast subject of weather focusing on the basics to keep you safe afloat.
The Theory: Your instructor will introduce you to:
- weather sources,
- where our weather comes from,
- understanding the inshore waters and shipping forecast
- an introduction to synoptic charts.
- Understanding High and Low pressure systems
We will also review the wide range of on-line weather sources and provide some recommendations on great weather apps for your smart phones/tablets.
The Practical: Master the art of reading a synoptic chart – demystify the lines and shapes to understand how the various sectors and fronts will directly affect your sailing.
Ability after workshop:
You will be able to find a range of weather sources suitable to use for passage planning and at sea and interpret a synoptic chart.
