Development session cove a wide range of skills from refreshing your basic skills, developing more navigation skills, improving your close quarter handling through to operating at night. Our sessions are taught by expert instructors and can be tailored to your needs.

A 1-day session aimed at those who already hold a Powerboat Level 2 certificate and are looking for a refresher of their L2 skills.

Session covers close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, driving at planing speed, navigating afloat and collision regulations

Ideal for:

  • Those who have recently qualified.
  • Those who are a little rusty and wish to brush up on their skills. 

Our 1 day Powerboat Development Session aims to build on your existing skills and develop your close quarter handling, navigation afloat and use of onboard electronics (chart plotter and radar) including using waypoints and routes.

This session is aimed at those who already hold a Powerboat Level 2 certificate and are looking to develop and improve their skills. Ideal for:

  • Those who have their PB2 and some additional boating experience.
  • Those looking to move to the Intermediate powerboat course.

A 4 hour introduction to operating a vessel over dusk and in the dark. PB2 qualification required.

This session introduces night operating techniques, basic light characteristics, identifying navigation aids at nights and helming by night. Ideal for:

  • Those looking to take on longer passages.
  • Those looking to venture out at night with limited or no previous night experience.

A 4 hour night navigation session focusing on the development of key techniques, night pilotage and the use of onboard electronics (chart plotter and radar) to assist in night navigation. Min PB2 qualification required – delegates will ideally already hold the Day Skipper Theory and Intermediate Powerboat Course.

You will be hands on as both the helm and the navigator ensuring that you can safely depart from our marina, navigate and helm safely by night, fix your position using charts and electronics, arrive at your destination and get back again – all whilst using lights, buoys & identifying and avoiding other vessels. Ideal for:

  • Those operating at dusk/night on their own vessels.
  • Those looking to gain the required night sea time for the MCA Advanced Commercial Exam and need some more night hours,

A half day or full day session onboard our motor cruiser looking at twin engine close quarter handling techniques, getting the best out of your vessel at slow speed alongside, essential crewing skills, understanding windage, effect of tides and pivot points.

For many, operating in the confines of a marina or conducting slow speed drills such as MOB recovery, anchoring or picking up a mooring buoy can be daunting and can spoil your cruising enjoyment – under the watchful guidance of one of our expert Yachtmaster Instructors we hoper to build your skills and confidence to achieve fear free boating! Ideal for:

  • Those who have completed their Helmsman/Day Skipper Practical.
  • Those with their own motor cruising vessel looking to improve and sharpen up their abilities.
