Mandie Cran – Chief Instructor (Sail)
Growing up on the island of Sark meant Mandie spent most of her youth either on or in the water and learning to sail opened up a whole new world, where it was your skills and knowledge that mattered, not what you looked like. She learnt to sail around the rocky waters of the Channel Islands and Brittany coast, achieving her RYA Yachtmaster Offshore ® qualification at nineteen (the youngest person at the time).
In the Army, she become a Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre Nicholson 55’ skipper, sailing 1,000 mile expeditions in many places around the world, normally with a novice crew. As a result she had to teach them how to handle the yacht and so from a very early age fell in love with showing people how to sail. There is a real sense of satisfaction when the light comes on their eyes as they ‘get’ it and she has seen many lives changed by learning to sail a yacht away from the land. She skippered 55’ Nicholson yachts in many places around the world, including across the Atlantic and south of Australia, logging 40,000 miles
As well as expeditions, she is an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean ® and SRC Assessor and has taught both practical and shorebased courses on the West Coast of Scotland and the South Coast for 29 years.
Mandie joins our team to provide instruction afloat for sail boat own boat tuition and ashore for shorebased navigation and VHF-SRC Courses/Exams.
