
Medical Gases Training
This course is for people who want to learn about the administration of oxygen and/or analgesic gas.
Ideal for: Divers, Healthcare professionals, Dental nurses, Those who need access to oxygen or fast pain relief in cases of emergency, for example, sports coaches, offshore first aiders, or workers in hazardous environments (such as those who work with cyanide)
This course develops a comprehensive range of skills in the administration of oxygen and/or analgesic gas. You will be working within the latest British Thoracic Society protocols and guidelines
A standard half-day medical gases course covers the safe handling, storage, and clinical administration of emergency gases like oxygen and Entonox over a 3 to 4-hour session
- Introduction & Legislation: Legal responsibilities, ethical requirements, and guidelines (such as British Thoracic Society standards) for using and storing medical gases at work.
- Cylinder Safety & Management: Cylinder identification, color-coding, pre-operational checks, safe manual handling, and proper storage facilities.
- Oxygen Administration: Medical oxygen properties, indications, contraindications, and practical use with regulators, flowmeters, and masks during resuscitation.
- Analgesic Gases (Entonox): Uses, composition (50:50 oxygen and nitrous oxide mixture), administration, and contraindications for pain management.
- Airway Management: Practical demonstrations and hands-on practice using airway adjuncts and suctioning devices.
- Monitoring & Record-Keeping: How to monitor patient response, record gas effects, and handle reporting requirements or emergency procedures.

Delegates MUST hold an in date EFAW / FAW or equivalent qualifcation
Minimum Duration: 0.5days
There is no minimum age for this course however all students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult
This course operates with a maximum of 12 students per instructor
