We offer a wide range of half and full day workshops for all abilities in a range of subjects. If you are looking to broaden your knowledge but don’t have time to attend a full course then these workshops are for you.
Workshops are open to all types of boaters. Whether you go afloat on a Yacht, Motor or powerboat or perhaps you are a dinghy sailor or kayaker in a coastal environment. Minimum Age is 16 – open to all abilities – no previous experience required.

Have you ever wanted to get to grips with ropework, understand the difference between hitches, bends, knots and splices? How good is your line coiling and securing to bollards?
Join this ropework and seamanship workshop to perfect your knots, lines and get to grips with splicing your mooring lines and whipping to tidy up any frayed lines!
A hands on practical day upskilling your seamanship skills where everyone gets to take something away with them as a memento of the day
Ability after workshop: You will be able to conduct basic splicing and whipping, tie a range of knots and correctly stow and coil ropes
A hands on one day session to unlock the mysteries of the sextant and allow you to confidently take sights at sea to obtain your position.
If you are looking to head a little further afield and take on some blue water cruising then this is a great start!
Ability after workshop: You will be able to set up and use a sextant, understand Universal Time, Local Mean Time, time zones and forecast the time of noon, understand the celestial sphere.


The aim of the workshop is to provide students with a basic introduction to the basics of electronic navigation, on-board systems and how to get the best out of your equipment.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to correctly plot way points, set up a route and understand the limitations of electronic systems on board.
The aim of the workshop is to provide students with a basic introduction to marine Radar to assist decision making in navigation, pilotage and collision avoidance.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to understand how to correctly switch on, set up and refine the picture, plot a vessels position and understand the fundamentals of collision avoidance.


The aim of the workshop is to provide students with an introduction the vast subject of weather focusing on the basics to keep you safe afloat.
This session will cover:
Weather Basics: What makes up our weather, Where our weather comes from – air masses and the jet stream, High and Low pressure systems, Cloud Types
Weather Forecasts: Understanding the inshore waters and shipping forecast, Sourcing weather online, Interpreting a synoptic chart, weather models
Types of Weather: Land & Sea Breezes, Fog
We will review the wide range of on-line weather sources and provide some recommendations on great weather apps for your smart phones/tablets.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to find a range of weather sources suitable to use for passage planning and at sea and interpret a synoptic chart.
In line with SOLAS we use the APEM methodology to ensure that we address all the aspects of voyage planning.
Passage planning and pilotage are basically about safety and enjoyment – making sure you have considered, and are prepared for, all eventualities going both in and out of port and everything in between.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to apply good practice passage planning methods to create your own passage and pilotage plan.


If you already hold your VHF-SRC licence but are feeling a bit rusty then this workshop is for you. Using our range of training radios we will give you hands on experience of sending and receiving messages and making a range of routine and emergency calls.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to send and receive routine and emergency calls by VHF Radio including basic DSC functions.
This half day workshop looks at the basics of tides, how to use a tidal curve to calculate the height of tide, calculating the strength and direction of the tidal stream , introduces secondary ports and looks at the wide range of electronic aids to calculating tidal heights and streams.
Ability after workshop: You will be able to find the correct tidal information from a range of sources, calculate the height of tide using a tidal curve and calculate simple secondary port tidal times and heights


The safety equipment required for your boat depends on the length of the boat, the local legislation, and the water’s your sailing. There is a huge range to chose from – our Safety Equipment Workshop aims to provide some help and guidance on what you need to have on board as well as an insight into how all the equipment works and when you should use it
Ability after workshop: You will be able to correctly select and fit a lifejacket, correctly select and use flares, understand the different types of personal and boat beacons and correctly use your liferaft
