Statement
Compass Sea School Ltd is committed to providing an inclusive work environment that encourages and welcomes diversity with a zero tolerance policy of harassment and discrimination. Our policy is to meet and exceed the demands of the Equality Act 2010.
The aim of this policy is to also ensure that all members of staff (permanent and contract) know that they are able to work in an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and are able to achieve their full potential in their job without distraction. The Company will make decisions without reference to discriminatory criteria. All members of staff must be aware of this Policy and should abide by its terms at all times including in their dealings with clients, candidates and each other.
Policy Breaches
If any member of Compass Sea School Ltd is at all unsure of anything under this policy they should speak to the Chief Instructor or School Principal. Appropriate action under the disciplinary procedure may, however, be taken against an individual who makes a malicious complaint.
Any complaints of discrimination and/or breaches of this policy should be reported to the School Principal as soon as possible.
Company Commitment
We are committed to meeting the objectives of the Equalities Act 2010. We treat people with protected characteristics with fairness and equality. For clarity, nobody will be treated less favourably than another on grounds of; age, sex, disability, gender reassignment, gender identity or gender presentation, marriage, civil partnership, pregnancy, being a parent, being a carer, race, religion/belief, and sexual orientation. This also includes anyone perceived to have one of the above characteristics whether they identify with it or not, and also covers anyone associated with a person who has, or is perceived to have, one or more protected characteristics.
As we operate under the MCA and RYA regulations it is essential that our afloat instructional staff meet the medical demands required for conducting training onboard our vessels in line with the MCA/RYA Commercial Endorsement requirements. All instructors operating under a Commercial Certificate of Competence MUST have an in date ML5/ENG1 medical form and are obliged to report any changes to their status immediately.
We have a zero tolerance policy on discrimination. Discrimination may be treated as part of the disciplinary procedure, or grievance procedure.
Compass Sea School endorses the principle of equality and will strive to ensure that everyone who wishes to be involved in sailing/boating and shorebased activities, whether as casual participants, students, volunteers, coaches/trainers, officials:
- has a genuine and equal opportunity to participate to the full extent of their own ambitions and abilities, without regard to their age, sex, gender identity, disability, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, race, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation; and
- Can be assured of an environment in which their rights, dignity and individual worth are respected, and in particular that they are able to enjoy their sport without the threat of intimidation, victimisation, harassment or abuse.
Compass Sea School is committed to avoiding and eliminating unfair discrimination of any kind in sailing/boating and Shorebased activities, and will under no circumstances condone unlawful discriminatory practices. The organisation takes a zero tolerance approach to harassment.
